Important Changes to Sponsor Licence Renewal

On 24th January 2024, the Home Office published a notification on the Sponsor Management System (SMS) informing Sponsors that they will no longer be required to renew their Sponsor Licences every 4 years.

How Does This Impact Me?

This welcome change impacts those Sponsors whose licenses were due to expire on or after 6th April 2024. Those whose licenses expire prior to this date will still have to renew their licenses via an application to the Home Office.

According to this update, all licenses due to expire on or after 6th April 2024 will be automatically extended for 10 years, and you do not need to take any additional action. For those who have already applied to renew their Sponsor Licenses which were due to expire on or after 6 April 2024, the Home Office will be arranging a refund for the application fee paid in due course.

This change will significantly alleviate the financial and administrative burden on employers holding a Sponsor License who were previously required to renew their Sponsor Licence every four years and pay a renewal fee for each application.
